Vickie Curtis is an Emmy-winning filmmaker, writer, and story architect adapting true stories for the screen. The focus of her work involves elevating nonfiction film with the same strong characters and narrative arc that make great fiction so compelling. A theatre nerd at heart, she seeks stories that reveal the transformational and nourishing power of artistic expression. This is a thread in much of her writing work, from FRAME BY FRAME (SXSW) to the Emmy-winning Netflix Original film CHASING CORAL (Sundance). Her recent work includes taking a look at the aspects of modernity that do not nourish us in THE SOCIAL DILEMMA (Sundance, Netflix) and ANBESSA (Berlinale).

COMPARSA, her directorial debut, is currently in production. COMPARSA is the story of two lion-hearted teenage sisters using circus arts and theatre to combat violence and discrimination in one of Guatemala’s most dangerous neighborhoods. Vickie earned her MFA from Naropa University and currently resides in Colorado.

"Vickie played a crucial role in the post-production of FRAME BY FRAME. As we swam through hundreds of hours of footage, Vickie was our Yoda...our box of chocolates...our ruby slippers back home to Kansas. I cannot wait to work with her again. Her talent and knowledge made our film possible, while her attitude made the whole process just plain fun."
